Thomas Coats, M.D. - Eye Care in Fort Washington, PA
Thomas Coats, M.D.

Dr. Coats has been a resident of Montgomery County his whole life. He is a graduate of Abington High School and Lafayette College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked briefly as an engineer before finding his passion and returning to medical school at Jefferson Medical College, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned his MD. Dr. Coats completed his internship at Abington Memorial Hospital and his residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Coats is board-certified in ophthalmology, and he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Montgomery County Medical Society. In 1998, Dr. Coats joined our staff as a general Ophthalmologist with a unique additional expertise in contact lenses. While contact lens care is typically not under the umbrella of ophthalmology, this unique expertise sets Dr. Coats apart from other ophthalmologists. He is currently on staff at Abington Lansdale Hospital, and Montgomery Surgery Center. His special interests are in Cataract surgery and management, glaucoma management and soft contact lenses. Dr. Coats has specifically enjoyed helping patients with advanced intraocular lens options, such as those to correct for both near and far vision or to correct astigmatism.
Dr. Coats and his wife, Nancy continue to reside in Montgomery County. He has raised three successful children, who attended Hatboro Horsham, LaSalle and Mount Saint Joseph and now live in various parts of the country. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, traveling, biking, staying active and spending time with his family.
